JUNIOR YEAR

Research colleges and universities
Prepare preliminary list of colleges
Take PSATs in October

Register for spring SAT – March 9 and May 4
February

Introduction to College Guidance informational session for students and parents
Junior conferences with college counselor begin
Register for April ACT — if applicable

 

March

SAT – 3/9
Junior conferences continue
Sign up for SAT-prep classes
Schedule college visits for April — tours, interviews, class visit
Start thinking about summer plans — job, service, travel, camps

 

April

Junior conferences continue
April ACT — 4/13
Start college visits
Register for June SAT
Take SAT-prep class

 

May

Junior conferences continue
SAT — 5/4
Schedule college visits for the summer — tours, interviews, meetings with coaches
Start thinking about teacher recommendations

SAT — June 1
Register for NCAA Clearinghouse
Continue college visits
Refine college list
Gather applications
Start thinking about essays — free writing, brainstorming, etc.
Register for fall SAT/ACT
Research scholarships

SENIOR YEAR

Ask teachers to write recommendations

Financial Aid information night for parents
Finalize early decision and early action applications and essays

Start financial-aid process

Fill out financial aid application and worksheet on www.fafsa.edu
