U10

The U10 program focuses on building strong fundamental skills and proper skiing techniques on the diverse terrain at Killington. The U10 Team will attend VARA Mid-Vermont Council U10 races during the season. This program is an introduction to alpine ski racing.

U12

The Alpine U12 Team is a competitive alpine racing program set in a fun and challenging environment on Killington Mountain. The U12 Team will attend VARA Mid-Vermont Council U12 races during the season in Mid-Vermont that are USSA- and VARA-sanctioned competitions.
Ages: 10-11(as of Dec. 31, 2016)

U14

The Alpine U14 Team is a competitive alpine program focused on challenging young athletes in skiing all terrain on Killington Mountain with specific emphasis on ski racing. The U14 Team will attend VARA Mid-Vermont Council U14 races during the season

U16

The Alpine U16 Team is a competitive alpine racing program set in a fun and challenging environment on Killington Mountain, with USSA- and VARA-sanctioned races at Killington as well as other ski areas. The U16 will attend Mid-Vermont Council U16 races and VARA USSA races.

Tom Sell

Tom brings more than 25 years of coaching experience to KMS. He returned to KMS in 2009 after several years with the U.S. Ski Team, coaching World Cup technical events before heading the development team and then the Europa Cup technical-events team. Prior to his time with the U.S. Ski Team, Tom held head coach positions at KMS, Stratton Mountain School, and Gould Academy.

Jack Bailey

Men's Head Coach and U16 Coach

Jack joined the KMS coaching staff after working as the head J1/J2 coach at Waterville Valley Academy and the BBTS Ski Club; prior to that, he was a men's coach at Stratton Mountain School. Jack has coached at all levels, from USSA to Nor-Am competition, and has extensive experience in athlete management, training and conditioning. He is also a USSA Coaching Clinician for the USSA Eastern Region and a graduate of the University of Maine at Farmington, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business economics with the UMF Ski Industries certification. He lives in Peru, Vt., with his wife, Marybeth, and their sons, Finegan and Shane.

Lon Brettell

Women's Head Coach and U18 Coach

In 2002, Lon joined the staff at KMS after nine years of work as a U.S. Ski Team coach with the U.S. Ski Team on the women's World Cup technical and speed teams. Prior to his work with the national team, Lon coached at Burke Mountain Academy and in Beaver Creek. He grew up in Pomfret, Vt., and competed at the FIS level as an athlete.

Pavel Stastny

PG/U18/21 Coach

Pavel brings more than 38 years of coaching experience and a track record of helping athletes reach the highest level of sport. Most recently, he coached Sarka Zahrobska to five top-15 World Cup finishes. Previous to that, he was the head coach for the Alpine Canada Men's Europa Cup Team, during which time two Canadian men captured Nor Am championships and a third finished second to his teammate.

 

Pavel also placed multiple athletes, including Greg Hardy, on a variety of national junior teams while working as the head alpine coach at Stratton Mountain School from 1990-2007. He coached Olympians Gaku Hirasawa (1994, 1998) and Tasha Nelson (2002). He was a professor of sports science at Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia, and he holds a doctorate in sport training.

Pavel's hobbies include skiing and cycling. He has two children, Diana and Pavel, Jr.

Chelsea Marshall

Women's Alpine Coach

Chelsea Marshall grew up skiing at Killington Resort. She developed a love for the sport at a young age and fearlessness for speed. Chelsea was a member of the US Ski Team for 10 years, where she took a liking to Downhill and competed in the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

 

She had a very successful World Cup career with several of top 10 finishes and a handful of National podiums. Chelsea looks forward to returning to her home mountain this season and also to starting a series of race camps which will be held throughout the winter.

Chelsea also hosts race camps at Killington Resort, providing kids a unique opportunity to learn from an Olympian and former U.S. Ski Team athlete.

Peter Girardi

Alpine Coach

Peter comes to KMS after three years coaching in upstate New York. In New York, he served as a level head coach and developed programming for a new level in response to USSA’s age change.

He spent four years in Bozeman, Montana earning a Bachelor’s Degree from Montana State University in Industrial Engineering. After college he returned to work for the program he grew up skiing in, Labrador Mountain Ski Club, in Truxton, New York, as a coach.

Greg Hadley

Head U14 Coach, BOOST Alpine Program Director

Greg has been with KMS since 2005, after fifteen years of operating Vermont Sport Sales Agency where he managed the North American sales and marketing of many top ski brands such as Nordica, Carrera, Phoenix Clothing, Komperdell Ski Poles, Shred, and Slytech.

 

Greg has over twenty five years of experience in the ski racing industry. After a shortened ski racing career due to injury, he started coaching at his home town ski club, Nashoba Valley in Westford Massachusetts, where he coached the J 1-2 program. He also implemented their Elite Training Program in conjunction with Waterville Valley Academy, where the skiers would spend weekends training with the Academy students and coaches. Greg also spent two years coaching at Beaver Creek in Colorado, as well as coaching for the US Adaptive Alpine Program out of Vail Colorado.

 

He started at KMS with the Junior Development three day programs, and moved into a full-time role the following year, working with the J3’s (now the U16 group) where he was appointed Head Coach in 2010. In 2012 he took over the U14 program and is currently the Head Coach of the U14 Program. He also continues to direct the BOOST Programs, as well as Admissions here at KMS.

 

Greg has been the VARA Mid Vermont Council U14 representative for the past two years, has been involved with the USSA Eastern Regional System programs for the past 4 years, and is a USSA certified coach.
