Student of the Week – June 8, 2016

Congratulations to Gavin Ferguson, who was named Student of the Week at Wednesday’s final community breakfast of the year. Gavin is a 12th grade Snowboard athlete who comes to KMS from Hartland, VT. He was nominated for this award by history teacher Courtney O’Keefe. Courtney described her reasons for the nomination, “Not only is Gavin a respectful young man, he is also a responsible one; he regularly asks questions and seeks clarification with instructions when needed during his free time. His work is that of an individual who takes the time to not only complete tasks as best he can, but also someone who also strives to really understand the material on a deep level. For Gavin, it’s about more than just getting the grade; he truly wants to understand what is in front of him. This week he and his partner Sam were given the task of presenting an anthropology article in class on a specific culture and its practices. Their presentation was very impressive; Gavin was knowledgable of the culture and its geography, demonstrating that he’d completed outside research. He was engaging and worked very well with Sam during the presentation. Gave also handled my questions with ease, reflecting his understanding and interest in the material. This was no easy task, given that the article also focused on socialism and capitalism and its impacts on this specific culture. Overall, I think that what I’ve seen lately from Gavin is what I believe a student of the week should demonstrate. Gavin is simply a pleasure to have in class.” Several other faculty members seconded the nomination, along with other members of the KMS community who do not even have Gavin in class, as they have noted his dedication to his studies and quiet diligence throughout the academic year. English teacher Pala Mostoller added her thoughts, “Gavin is always enthusiastic and thoughtful in his contributions to class discussion.” Congratulations, Gavin; well done, and nice job ending the year with a bang!
