FREESKI // Team

The Freeski Team is designed to help athletes improve their skills in slopestyle, halfpipe, rail jam and big air competitions.  The team will train at Killington, and compete in the USASA Southern Vermont series events, as well as local Killington events. Our focus will be using the diverse terrain here at Killington including both terrain parks and regular trails to prepare our athletes for competition.  

Ages: 11-16  (as of Dec. 31, 2022)
 

Program Details

  • Fundamental training in big air, slopestyle and halfpipe with a focus on techniques and skill development

  • Includes coaching at selected events in the USASA Southern Vermont Series and Killington’s Rails 2 Riches and K-town Showdown Competitions.

  • This program assists beginning freeski competitors with building skills needed for higher-level competition.

  • Includes competition coaching, coaches expenses and travel to agreed upon USASA events. This does not include USASA Nationals travel and coaches fees.

Program dates, meeting times, holiday period training & lunch

  • Program starts Sunday October 2, with Conditioning programs at Killington Mountain School from 10 am - 12 pm the following Sundays October 16,  23 and 30 and November 6. 

  • On Sunday October 9, at 9:00 am, All athletes are invited to participate in the Columbus Day Weekend Annual Hike to the top of Killington Mountain, followed by refreshments and activities at the KMS Open House. 

  • On Snow Program Starts Saturday, December 3.  

  • Saturday: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm and Sunday:  9:00 am - 3:00 pm

  • Holiday Training Camp: Full Day Training December 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30. Half Day Schedule December 24 and 31, with NO programs on December 25 and January 1. Programs resume on January 7 for regular schedule. 

  • February Training Camp: Additional Friday Training Blocks February 17 and 24.

  • Lunch time 11:30 am – 12:00 pm (Lunch times may vary, programs will be provided most up to date information as needed) 

  • The program schedule includes 6 preseason dryland sessions and 37 days on snow training sessions. 

  • All scheduled training and competition is dependent on weather and snow conditions.

  • The program ends on March 25, 2023.

 
 

Big Mountain Team

The Big Mountain Team program focuses on continued development of overall skiing skills and techniques. This is a fun and exciting program for athletes that want to improve their overall skiing ability. Athletes will ski a variation of terrains and all ski disciplines with a focus on steeps, trees, cliffs and other big mountain terrain through ski activities that can include uphill travel, mountain exploration, resort sponsored events among many others. This is a non competitive program where athletes can ski everything on the mountain with their peers. The goal of the Big Mountain Team is to instill a lifelong passion for skiing. 

Ages: 8-15   (as of Dec. 31, 2022)

Program Details
  • Designed for skiers who can aggressively ski the entire mountain.

  • Fundamental training in a variety of ski disciplines.

  • Focused on improving their overall skiing ability while having fun.

Program Fees

  • $1,720

FREESKI // Program Requirements & Information

  • USASA Membership is required to compete in the USASA Southern Vermont Series halfpipe and slopestyle events (Freeski).

  • All programs must be paid in full by the first day of the program. No exceptions will be made without prior arrangements with the program director.

  • A helmet is mandatory.

  • A mouth guard and back brace are strongly recommended.

  • Membership in the Killington Ski Club is required for all KSC/KMS program  members.  KMS and the Killington Ski Club (KSC) are separate entities that work closely together to offer Development Programs to our young athletes:  KMS manages and coaches the Devo. Programs and the Competition and Race Events. KSC provides Ski Club building access, guidance, scholarships, and social opportunities.

  • Participation in the KSC/KMS Work Obligation Program is required for all families in the competition programs. This allows us to adequately staff competition events at Killington and provide a quality experience for our athletes in their home events.

  • Each athlete must have a Killington Unlimited Season Pass.

  • The coaching staff will send weekly emails with logistical details for the upcoming weekend.
