ACTION SPORTS

The Action Sports Department includes the disciplines of freeskiing, freestyle and snowboarding.

The Action Sports Staff is a deeply committed group of coaches who are dedicated to the success of the student-athletes academically, athletically, and in all aspects of life. We will push you, care about you, and expect nothing but the best from you.

We hope that you will choose to become a part of KMS. We would love to have you come train with us for a day and experience all the KMS Action Sports Teams have to offer!
Please do not hesitate to contact me.

For student athletes focused on competitive Freeskiing, Killington Mountain's long season and expansive terrain provide the best on-hill training in the East at our back door. Award winning terrain parks, superior snow conditions, and every type of skiing imaginable are waiting for our athletes every day. Our “backyard” has the variety of terrain that allows us to develop athletes to compete at the highest levels of Slopestyle, SkiCross, Rail Jam and Halfpipe competitions. In addition, KMS has just announced our plans to develop a new four season air bag and dry rail training facility for our athletes.

The Freeski Program at KMS works on the philosophy that it takes more than just on-hill training to develop a successful student-athlete. In addition to outstanding academics, on-site facilities include an Action Sports Training Center that houses two Olympic flybed trampolines and balance training equipment. KMS Freeski team members train daily in the Strength and Conditioning Center, which is equipped with free weights, agility training tools, and more than 20 stationary resistance bikes. These facilities allow KMS coaches to prepare athletes for progression, while helping to minimize injuries on the hill.

KMS Freeski Team student-athletes continue their tradition of top-level performance in all disciplines of competitive Freeskiing. Current team members have achieved success at National events that include multiple podium spots at the 2015 USASA Freeski Nationals at Copper Mountain, Colorado. They have also secured invitations to participate in highly selective development events like the USSA Project Gold development camps. KMS coaches continue to utilize the latest technology to enable immediate video feedback on the hill, speeding up athlete progression and providing footage for athletes to edit. The coaches have a depth of combined experience in developing and mentoring student-athletes in their transition into successful adults.

KMS provides athletes a progressive foundation toward success in Freeski competition with academic and non-academic camps, sessions, and season-long programs. KMS offers Freeski programs for all abilities and ages 6 an older.

Athlete development in Freeski Programs are offered through the following academic and non-academic programs at Killington Mountain School:

Beginning with KMS/KSC Development programs, KMS offers weekend and extended training opportunities for developing young, well-rounded athletes allowing them the opportunity to pursue their love of the sport through training and competition. These programs are the primary development pipelines for the Killington Mountain School. KMS also offers athletes numerous on-snow camp opportunities throughout the United States to expand their training, skills development, and competition opportunities throughout the year.

Though the KMS BOOST Sessions, athletes in grades 6 through 9 are introduced to the Killington Mountain School academy lifestyle. BOOST program participants train with KMS coaches and work with teachers on their academics, just like the student-athletes enrolled in our Academy programs.

Our Three Month, Winter-Term (5 month) and Full-Term (9 month)Academy Programs offer a unique balance of complete athlete training that is supported by a flexible and highly individualized academic program. Our academic and coaching staff allows all of our student athletes to pursue compete ion at the highest levels while maintaining an education standard that is truly exceptional. With an emphasis on sound technical development, KMS strives to create an environment that is fun, supportive, and conducive to learning, and one that is tailored to the needs of each participant.

KMS offers a unique combination of broad coaching knowledge, outstanding academic

staff, and exceptional training facilities, and we are stoked to have another successful season!

Freestyle

The KMS Freestyle Team loves to attack mogul venues around the world. Off the hill, the Action Sports Training Facility will help our student-athletes develop a great baseline of fitness and awareness. From there we will take our skills directly to the hill on Killington’s great venues!

KMS student-athletes have a unique opportunity to excel in both academics and athletics while training at an elite level. We have some of the best teachers, coaches, resources and technology at our disposal to bolster the student-athlete's success. These aspects all combine to create the best freestyle skiing program in the world.

This season members of our team will compete on the regional, national and international circuits of freestyle mogul skiing, including the USSA "A" Eastern Championship Series, FIS events, USSA Junior Nationals, Junior World Championships and US Championships.

The coaching staff and I are excited for a season filled with podium results and personal bests on all levels.

From 2008-2014, Kris was the head mogul FIS/Nor-Am coach at Telluride, and served most recently as the head freestyle coach at Aspen.

Kris began his freestyle career as a competitive athlete out of Hunter Mountain, NY. From there he traveled to Park City to compete nationally, attaining strong results. Kris got his start in coaching at Park City, before moving on to Telluride where he was instrumental in developing one of the most highly successful FIS programs in the country.

Most recently, at Aspen, Kris has been tasked with building a grassroots freestyle mogul program. Head Snowboard Coach

Jeff hails from New Hampshire, and was originally an alpine ski racer. He made the switch to snowboarding when he was 15 years old and hasn’t looked back. Jeff has a long background in snowboarding competition, both as an athlete and coach. He has coached athletes up through the Nor-AM, Revolution Tour, and USASA National levels, and is himself an accomplished snowboard and cycling competitor.

Jeff's professional background includes both Head Competition Coach and Snowsports Director duties. An assistant snowboarding coach at Holderness School for two years, Jeff became the head alpine and boardercross snowboard coach at Loon Mountain in 2008. Most recently, Jeff was the Director of Guest Services for Ragged Mountain Resort, NH where he oversaw multiple operations including Learning Center and Terrain Parks. His passion for coaching outweighed a corporate trajectory, and he was eager to get back out on the hill with aspiring young snowboard competitors. He joined the Killington Mountain School family in 2014.

Jeff was part of the first group of coaches to be awarded the USSA Level 300 coaching endorsement for SnowboardCross. He is also an AASI Certified Instructor-Level I in Freestyle, and as a competitor qualified for the USASA Nationals in the Men’s Open-Class boardercross division.

Camps

Action Sports Camps

KMS athletic programs run year-round, providing student-athletes with the building blocks they need to reach their goals. KMS racers work throughout the preparation period—the time between the end of one competition season and the beginning of the next—to be ready for that next season's competitions.

Each winter, the coaching staff plans the camps for the following preparation period; these plans are based on the year-round athletic development curriculum and targetted to the needs of KMS student-athletes.
