REQUEST INFORMATION

The KMS full-term program provides each KMS student-athlete with an academic program uniquely tailored to the demands of student-athletes competing at an elite level. The combination of small class sizes and close interaction with the athletic programs allows full-term student-athletes to balance top-notch academics with elite-level athletic competition. Teachers and coaches work together to ensure that academic and athletic demands on each student-athlete fluctuate in proportion, providing for an accelerated academic pace outside of competition season to allow for the intense athletic demands of the peak competition season.

Killington Mountain School’s unique curriculum is designed to offer unparalleled academics to our student-athletes. It includes a flexible and comprehensive range of courses including social sciences, history, English, physical and life sciences, mathematics, and foreign language as well as a wide variety of technology, fine arts, and music electives. The curriculum emphasizes the development of writing and study skills, critical thinking, and practical applications of new concepts.

Off-season sport offerings include both mountain and road bike racing under the banner of the Killington Mountain School Cycling Team, as well as potential access to individual and club team sports.

REQUEST INFORMATION

The KMS Winter-Term Program allows student-athletes in grades 7-12 to pursue skiing and snowboarding excellence while maintaining a close connection to their sending school. Student-athletes in the winter-term program attend their sending school from the beginning of the school year until near the beginning of November, when they come to KMS and join their teammates for five intensive months of study and competition.

Student-athletes in the winter-term program can choose to pursue academics in conjunction with their home school curriculum or can withdraw from their home school and utilize the KMS curriculum; in both cases, the KMS faculty works with each student-athlete to ensure that the transition back to the sending school in the spring is seamless.

KMS winter-term students remain connected with their home environment, can participate in a variety of fall and spring activities, and have the opportunity to compete at a national and international level of competition in their winter sport.

Transition

Each fall, KMS teachers begin working closely with each student-athlete's sending school to establish clear expectations and coordinate academic requirements that the student must meet during his or her time at KMS. This process guarantees that each student-athlete's academic curriculum is tailored to meet the sending school's expectations and ensures a seamless and successful transition back in the spring.

REQUEST INFORMATION

This option offers young student-athletes a great way to transition into the winter or full-term programs by providing an extended experience at KMS. KMS recognizes that not all seventh- and eighth-grade students are ready to spend five months focused on academic and athletic excellence, and the development program—with the same small, individualized classes and high-quality coaching as the winter-term program—provides those student-athletes with the KMS experience in a smaller serving. The shorter session allows the student-athletes to build skills they will need as winter-term or full-term students while still spending most of the school year at their sending schools.
